Matteo Ferrantino's Italian-Mediterranean star kitchen - right on the Marco-Polo-Terrassen.
bianc on the Marco-Polo-Terrassen has held two Michelin stars since 2020 and counts as the culinary bridgehead of HafenCity. Head chef Matteo Ferrantino, formerly twelve years with Dieter Müller and long-time sous chef at Vila Joya on the Algarve, cooks a distinctive style here: Italian-Mediterranean at its root, with Portuguese influences and the precision of modern high cuisine. Opened in spring 2019, the restaurant moved into the front rank of Hamburg dining within months. The location is part of the programme. Right on the Grasbrookhafen, with views of the Marco-Polo-Terrassen and the Elbphilharmonie, the restaurant sits on the ground floor of the quarter that most densely embodies today's HafenCity. The menu offers four to eight courses, often featuring carabineros, turbot, pigeon variations and a pasta homage that traces Ferrantino's origins. The bread service with olive oils from the Alentejo is one of the signature moments. The interior by JOI-Design uses warm wood, soft beige tones and an open show kitchen, from which Ferrantino hands over the dishes himself - theatre without noise. Generous spacing between tables, a curated wine list with a focus on Italy and Portugal. Reserve at least three to four weeks ahead, longer at weekends. Price level €€€€: the large menu is around 245 to 285 euros, wine pairing from 145 euros. Getting there: U4 Überseequartier, then six minutes on foot along the promenade. Parking in the Überseequartier district car park. Ideal for: birthdays, mixed business and private occasions, and anyone who wants to experience Hamburg's new star kitchen in its most visually striking setting.
