Germany's fastest marathon – a flat city course through the harbor, Speicherstadt and around the Alster.

Since 1986, Germany's oldest city marathon has wound through every major Hamburg neighborhood on a Sunday in April. The course is famously flat and fast, looping past the harbor, through the Speicherstadt and along the Alster, which is part of the reason it draws elite fields chasing personal bests alongside tens of thousands of recreational runners. Hotels for the night before the race traditionally sell out fast, particularly anything within walking distance of the start and finish near the Messehallen, so book several months ahead if you plan to travel for it.
