Hanseatic Christmas market in front of the Rathaus, complete with a flying Father Christmas.
The Roncalli Christmas market on the Rathausmarkt brings a touch of circus showmanship to the usual mulled-wine routine: lovingly decorated wooden stalls, a mirrored pavilion and a Father Christmas who sails overhead on a sleigh suspended above the square. It is Hamburg's most nostalgic address in December, and a logical starting point for a wander through the city's many other Christmas markets, from Mönckebergstraße to St. Pauli.
