Filmfest Hamburg

Since 1992, Filmfest Hamburg has screened around 130 films from 50 countries across a single week each fall. There is no formal competition; instead the program leans into honest, character-driven cinema from Asia and Latin America alongside German and European premieres. Venues are clustered around Dammtor and the Grindelviertel, with Cinemaxx Dammtor and the long-running arthouse Abaton anchoring the festival. Q&A sessions with directors, late-night screenings and a relaxed industry crowd make this one of the more approachable festivals on the German circuit.
