Brücke 10
Hamburg's essential fish-roll address, right on the Landungsbrücken waterfront.
Brücke 10 has been arguably the most photographed Fischbrötchen stand in Hamburg since the early 2000s and stands in a long tradition of harbour kiosks that fed shipyard workers, sailors and, later, tourists along the Elbe. The name simply refers to the Landungsbrücken berth where the pavilion sits — water's edge, Elbe view, seagulls included. Location: Landungsbrücken in St. Pauli, in the white wooden pavilion between piers 9 and 10, a few metres from the Alter Elbtunnel. The menu sticks to the Hamburg classics: Bismarck, Matjes, fried herring, battered fish and shrimp rolls, plus rollmops, salmon and herring in a classic Brötchen. Trimmings stay puristic — pickle, onion, remoulade, mustard. For something warm there's fish soup or battered fish in a roll; in summer Matjes "nach Hausfrauenart" (housewife-style) joins the list. The setting is deliberately pared back: bright wooden pavilion with large windows, a stainless-steel bar counter, long wooden benches outside facing the Elbe, the musical tents and outbound container ships. Inside it's tight; most guests eat standing or on the move. Reservations aren't possible and aren't needed — Brücke 10 is a classic walk-in operation with counter ordering. At peak times (weekends, lunch) the queue can stretch out the door, but it moves quickly. Price level: cheap. Fish rolls run between €4.50 and €8, fish soup around €7, drinks from €3. Two rolls and an Astra come in under €15. Getting there: U3/S1/S3 Landungsbrücken, then 100 metres to the water. Ideal for: your first harbour walk, a quick lunch stop between sightseeing and a harbour cruise.
