Volksparkstadion
Hamburger SV's 57,000-seat arena in the Bahrenfelder Volkspark.
The Volksparkstadion in Bahrenfeld is home to Hamburger SV and, with 57,000 seats, the city's largest sports venue. Built in 1953 as the 'Volkspark-Stadion' in the Bahrenfelder Volkspark, it remained a classic bowl with an athletics track until 1998, when it was completely rebuilt — followed by a major refurbishment in 2024. Its significance extends well beyond HSV: a venue for the 1974 and 2006 World Cups, host of the DFB-Pokal final between 1989 and 1996 (before it moved to Berlin), and a regular stop for the biggest live acts (Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Coldplay, and Taylor Swift in 2025). HSV have been in the 2. Bundesliga since 2018, but the atmosphere in the famous North Stand, with its 'Anpfiff' choreography, is often better than in the top flight. Stadium tours run regularly and cover the players' tunnel, dressing rooms, press conference room and VIP boxes (15 €). For non-football visitors, the concert calendar is the real draw. Practical note: concerts bring 60,000+ fans, so expect special services on the S21 to Stellingen or the S3/S21 to Othmarschen plus shuttle. Getting there: S21 Stellingen, 10 minutes on foot.
